Edwyn turns knowledge into capability

A learning product for learners, experts and teams: guided courses, practical work and review, so what someone learns ends in something they can show. Built on MergeMind Learning, so the effort went into the teaching rather than into accounts, payments and progress tracking.

Edwyn is a product MergeMind built on its own platform — not a customer.

Visit the Edwyn site

The public pages are hosted separately, but the request-access form and the learner app need our own environment, which is not always online. The learner app is by invitation.

The product

Most online learning sells hours of video and a certificate of attendance. Edwyn is organised around practice instead: a learner follows a guided path, does the exercises, answers a readiness quiz and submits practical work that a reviewer reads and responds to. Java is the first path, from fundamentals to engineering practice.

Experts who want to teach need somewhere to publish courses and review learners’ work, and learners need their progress saved properly. Edwyn Studio is the creator workspace, and the public site offers free planning tools for learners, experts and teams.

What a business like this usually builds first

Learner and creator sign-in with separate roles

Enrollment that checks who is entitled to which course

Lesson-by-lesson progress that follows the learner to a new device

Taking payment for courses

Quizzes, certificates and creator analytics

Keeping each academy’s data isolated from every other

Edwyn took all of that from MergeMind.

The journey

How it works, end to end

01

Choose a path

Pick a guided path; Java is the first.

02

Learn

Work through the lessons and their teaching assets.

03

Practise

Do the exercises each course ships with.

04

Check

Answer the readiness quiz; attempts are saved.

05

Show

Submit practical work as evidence.

06

Review

A reviewer responds; finishing a course issues a completion certificate.

Built vs inherited

The part only this business needed

Edwyn spent its effort here — everything on the right came from MergeMind: its engine and the shared core.

The Java curriculum

Thirteen published courses, from fundamentals to engineering practice, each with a readiness quiz.

The learner app

Where a learner follows a path, practises, takes the quizzes and submits practical work.

Studio

The creator workspace: draft, edit and publish courses, and review learners’ practice evidence.

The public site and planning tools

A learning plan, a course blueprint and a team capability starter, free and with no account.

From MergeMind

Enrollment and progress (Learning engine)

Quizzes with saved attempts (Learning engine)

Practice evidence and creator review (Learning engine)

Completion certificates, completion records only (Learning engine)

Learner and creator accounts (core)

Course payments, unused while every course is free (core)

Notifications, wired but with no outside e-mail yet (core)

Events for every enrollment and completion (core)

Tenant isolation per academy (core)

Edwyn runs on the MergeMind Learning engine through the platform’s gateway: sign-in, enrollment and lesson completion are saved on the server, not in the browser.

Proof over hours

Edwyn is built around work a learner can show, not time spent watching. A certificate here is a completion record, not an assessed qualification.

Honest status

What’s real — and what isn’t yet

Real today

13 courses, 64 modules and 190 lessons are published on the live server, all free (counted 27 October 2026)

Real sign-in through the platform’s gateway, with enrollment and lesson completion saved on the server

13 readiness quizzes holding 78 questions, with saved attempts, and practice evidence that a creator reviews in Studio

The 18 October audit checked every lesson of the ten courses then published against its source and ran the course programs and acceptance checks (full benchmark runs excepted). It found ten issues, four of them blockers; all were closed by 21 October

The public Edwyn site is live

Not yet

Open to the public — Edwyn is in early access and the learner app is by invitation

Two accounts have enrolled, both ours (a review account and a release-test account); no outside learner has enrolled yet, so lesson durations and workloads are the author’s estimates

The three courses added since the 18 October audit had lighter checks (a content validator and live browser checks), not the full audit

Studio is not publicly hosted: creator access is arranged with us

Skills and School are in development, and hosted video and live cohorts are on the roadmap

No e-mail reaches an outside inbox yet: invitations are links we send by hand, which is also why public sign-up is held back

The request-access form and the learner app need our own environment, which is not always online
